Do you snore or wake up feeling tired each morning? Knowing the signs of sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing can help you improve your energy levels and potentially save your life.

Disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can significantly increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. Our sleep apnea services could help you improve your breathing and oxygen intake without the use of a bulky CPAP machine.

Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Some of the things we screen for during your sleep apnea consultation include:

  • A large neck circumference
  • A small/tight neck circumference
  • Teeth that are worn down or fractured
  • Prominent jaw muscles
  • Large tonsils
  • Restricted upper airway (excessive tissues)
  • History of fatigue, depression, headaches/migraines, or weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • TMJ disorder

If we suspect a sleeping disorder, we can arrange for you to have a home sleep study ordered (to prevent an overnight stay in an offsite clinic) or refer you to a pulmonologist for further evaluation.

Dental Appliances for Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Our Seattle sleep apnea patients can choose to have a special mouthpiece made to help with their snoring and obstructed breathing. The appliance positions your lower jaw in a more forward position, preventing soft tissues at the back of your mouth from sealing off your upper airway.

Since oral sleep appliances are considered medical devices, you will need a prescription and may be able to file it towards your health insurance.

Advantages of Oral Sleep Appliances

Compared to traditional CPAP equipment, an oral snore guard or sleep apnea mouthpiece offers a number of benefits, including:

  • Easier to clean
  • Convenient for storage and travel
  • More flexibility for sleep positions
  • No noisy equipment
  • Discreet
  • Less invasive

These devices can be used in conjunction with existing CPAP equipment. However, some of our clients find that the dynamics of an oral sleep appliance allows them to eliminate the use of their CPAP machine altogether.

We’ll carefully monitor your results to make adjustments as needed, but most people see a difference within the first night’s use.

If needed, we also offer oral surgery services such as tori removal, to improve oral volume and create additional room for air intake.
